Nearly free of gore, the film taps into the deep and always welcome vein of the opulently bizarre things that rich, emotionally stunted people get into when they’ve got too much money. “The Boy” didn’t screen for critics, but it’s actually a pretty sturdy genre effort.

The pained “sorry” that Brahms’ mother whispers in the new nanny’s ear just before the couple drives off from their Downton-esque manor suggests - if Brahms wasn’t clue enough - that Greta’s time sitting around with a doll won’t be easy. An American hiding from her abusive ex in the English countryside, Greta is left alone to take care of Brahms while his elderly “parents” (Jim Norton and Diana Hardcastle) take a long-needed break from their son.Īlso Read: Ted Cruz References Horror Movie 'It Follows,' '13 Hours' During GOP Debate Though rosy-cheeked, it’s hard not to feel a chill down your spine when you look at his unmoving face, pale and hard as an elephant tusk.īrahms is, in short, a doll, and poor Greta ( Lauren Cohan) is the only nanny candidate desperate enough to take on the job of “caring” for him. Typically garbed in slacks and tie, he’s the opposite of his namesake, the temperamental composer Brahms. Other grown ups in charge of this teen and moms in general in this movie bring out my less pacifictic side, so do most of the men with one pretty awesome exception giving hope to all men out there, yes you can do it, you can be responsible lovable human being if you try.Īll in all not really a masterpiece but definitely worth watching. The pliant 8-year-old at the center of the new horror movie “The Boy” is the very picture of British gentility. The grown up lead is not very nice, and that is okay too, she does have some growth but not to much growth and is most certainly less mature than the teen she has taken under her wing, giving the viewers a chance to hate her as wall as feel for her at times. I also loved how they over and over pointed out the absurdity in putting all the responsibility and blame on the teen mom when she clearly did not get pregnant on her own. I also loved the teen, she was probably smarter and waaaay cooler than all the adults in this drama but without loosing her status as a teen. What I loved about the movie was the dialog and the women sticking up for each other. Dazzled by the new phase in her career, Ju Yeon begins to neglect Dan Ji, but worse, people are now suspicious.Ī feel good, fight back, feel mad kind of movie This movie is kind of sweet and pretty interesting showing very clearly the prejudice against both teen pregnancies and woman as a whole while pointing out and society's lack of safety nets in an a tad absurd and to far way.
